Not having insurance is not the same as having no options — there are several established paths to treatment without private coverage.

Options to check

• Medicaid eligibility — income thresholds are often more permissive than people expect, especially after ACA Medicaid expansion in most states.
• State-funded treatment programs — every state receives SAMHSA block grant funding specifically for people without insurance; the SAMHSA National Helpline can identify local options.
• Sliding-scale fees — many treatment centers, especially nonprofits, adjust cost based on income.
• Payment plans — some private facilities offer financing directly.

Cost should never be the reason someone doesn't call for information — many of these options cost far less than people assume, and some are free.
